Beginning in 1978, TRIADOPTION®
Library maintained an International Referral Service meant to assist persons
wishing search assistance or support in their adoption quest for documents,
information and reunion. In 1978, there were only 52 organizations giving search
assistance or support to those touched by adoption separation. In 1993 there
were over 500 specialists willing to help people locate family information.
These were spread across the United States, Canada and a dozen other countries.
For the most part this network was a grass-roots, loosely connected group of
dedicated individuals who bring a wide variety of experience, perspectives,
beliefs and ideals to their involvement. Many are volunteers. Some organizations
were non-profit, 501(c)3 tax exempt corporations. Also, included in this
directory were private investigators, search consultants, genealogists and
researchers with some area of expertise in adoption family reunification. And
there are a number of publications, book publishers and reunion registries
listed as well. This directory was published annually from the early 1980's and
it never failed that things data changed continually. Later for several years,
Curry Wolfe from Southern California, published something similar titled the
Adoption Blue Book.
